Training; Step 2-AFIC (Advanced Flight Instructional Course)
Description: In the Advanced Flight Instructional Course, student pilots will obtain various skills required to become a naval aviator such as formations, what to do in hot-zone scenarios, and more.
AFIC Section 1: Base Operations
Base operations consists of proper performance for non-combat base edicate. This section is molded to create an organized and professional-looking aviation force within FLEETCOM. The following is proper responses when taking off and landing in a non-combat scenario. NOTE: This information has been modeled after base operations on FLCM's Magellan Joint Reserve Base. Information may differ on other areas of operation.

This is a hands-on section of AFIC that cannot be taught on this site.
AFIC Section 3: Formations
1 Aircraft Formation "Loaner": 1 Aircraft flying by itself.
2 Aircraft Formation "Angel on my Shoulder": 2 aircraft in close proximity to each other. Trailing aircraft is situated behind and to the side of the leading aircraft.
3 Aircraft Formation "Arrow": 3 aircraft in medium proximity to each other. Two trailing aircraft are situated on either side of the leading aircraft.
4 Aircraft Formation "Diamond": 4 aircraft formation in close medium to each other. 2 trailing aircraft are situated on either side of the leader with the 3rd trailing aircraft situated directly behind the leader. Forms a diamond shape.
5 Aircraft Formation "Blade": 5 aircraft formation in medium proximity to each other. An "Arrow" formation with an extra aircraft on either end.
